Philadelphia is a city that prides itself on being progressive and compassionate. However, the sale of fur products in our city is a cruel and unnecessary practice that must be banned. Very few stores sell fur in Philadelphia and do not contribute substantially towards local economy. 

Every year, millions of animals are trapped, raised in captivity or killed by anal electrocution for their fur. Animals like foxes, mink, rabbits and even cats and dogs suffer immensely throughout their lives, often enduring cramped living conditions, severe injuries and painful deaths.

The fur industry is incredibly harmful to the environment, with toxic chemicals used during tanning processes polluting waterways and harming local ecosystems.

COVID-19 runs rampant on fur farms, especially mink farms, which can be easily passed on to humans. Who wants another pandemic? NOT US! 

Thankfully, many cities across the country have already taken action to ban the sale and manufacture of fur products. San Francisco was one of the first major cities to do so in 2018, followed by Los Angeles in 2019. New York City recently passed similar legislation as well.

By banning the sale and manufacture of fur products in Philadelphia, we can take an important step towards protecting animal rights and promoting sustainable practices. It's time for our city to join other progressive communities across the country by taking this important stand against animal cruelty.

We urge City Council and the Mayor of Philadelphia to enact an ordinance that bans the sale and manufacture of new animal fur products in Philadelphia.
