Ban public sale and use of fireworks - Protect our animals!
The issue
Animals, whether domestic pets, farmed or wild, are impacted severely by fireworks displays. Causes include anxiety and range right through to death.
If the public/residential use of fireworks continue our animals will continue to face extreme anxiety, fight or flight, stress, panic and even death.
As an owner of dogs, I see first-hand every year, and for months after, the devastating impact it has on my labxridgeback mix who suffers from epilepsy and anxiety. The panic and stress she face's is heartbreaking, and I fear one of these days she may have a cardiac event or a seizure that has life ending side effects.
Dogs hear up to 60,000hz as opposed to humans who only hear up to 20,000hz, so even if you can't hear it, they can.
Tairawhiti also plays host to a native long tailed bat that has recently been discovered, and a plethora of native birds such as the Piwakawaka (fantail), Tauhou (wax eye), Tui, Kereru (wood pigeon) just to name a few! The sonic shock has life threatening consequences.
We need to protect our family pets as well as our stock and wildlife from the dangers these fireworks bring and ban them immediately!
