The Issue

I live in Delhi, and every day I am greeted by a thick blanket of smoke hovering over the city. The air is suffocating, and it's a constant reminder of the pollution crisis we face. One of the significant contributors to this situation is the rampant use of firecrackers. They fill the air with toxic chemicals, affecting not just the environment but our health.

For years, the joyous celebrations in Delhi have been marred by the excessive pollution caused by firecrackers. Not only do they result in a shocking increase in air pollution, but they also lead to noise pollution that affects vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. The air quality index spikes to hazardous levels during festivals, making it difficult for everyone to breathe without facing health risks like asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems all because of firecrackers producing many chemicals like Charcoal (carbon) combustion: Produces carbon dioxide ( CO2CO sub 2
CO2
) and carbon monoxide (CO).
Sulfur combustion: Releases sulfur dioxide ( SO2SO sub 2
SO2
).
Metal compounds: Fireworks also contain metal salts to create colors, which release various metals into the atmosphere when ignited.

The solution is clear: ban the production and sale of firecrackers. By taking this step, we can significantly reduce air pollution and protect our community's health. Many countries have already implemented strict regulations on fireworks with positive outcomes. It's time for India to do the same and lead by example.

The health of current and future generations depends on the actions we take now. By stopping the production of firecrackers, we can pave the way for cleaner air and a healthier environment in our beloved city of Delhi and the entire nation by .

Join me in urging the government to enact this critical legislation. Sign this petition to make firecracker production a thing of the past and push for a healthier, less polluted future with zero methane.
