Ban the Ledbury Hunt from Ledbury High Street on Boxing Day

The Issue

Ledbury Anti Fox Hunt   started this petition to clerk@ledburytowncouncil.gov.uk  bje@herefordshire.gov.uk Highways at Herefordshire Council

We urgently need your help to prevent the Ledbury Hunt from closing Ledbury Town centre and holding their Annual meet on Boxing Day this year (or any other day during the christmas holidays).

We are asking Ledbury Town Council to put pressure on Herefordshire Council's Highways department and not allow a road closure in the centre of Ledbury town and not allow the Ledbury Hunt to parade through it with hounds and horses.

The Ledbury Hunt are actively engaged in illegally hunting foxes with no trails being laid and illegally blocking badger setts.  It's time that local Councils stood up to these wildlife criminals and did the right thing.

At last years meet the Ledbury also hired security without ant badges or accreditation with no jurisdiction. Herefordshire Council themselves who permitted this to happen confirmed "the (Ledbury) hunt have no jurisdiction over this area...the Council has responsibility for the highway as well as the police for public order. The road remains public highway"...

People need to be aware that hunts including The Ledbury are still hunting despite the ban using Trail Hunting as a smokescreen to continue hunting, killing and disrupting our wildlife.

An explosive expose aired on ITV in November 2020 showed senior figures within the Master of Fox Hounds Association and Countryside Alliance caught on camera admitting that 'trail hunting' is a smokescreen for hunting and killing foxes.

Senior hunting officials were shown on camera orchestrating how to best continue to hunt live quarry and pursue wildlife.

In light of this many landowners have now decided to ban the hunts from their land. Malvern Hills Trust last year banned the Ledbury Hunt from their land after many breaches of its rules and being caught blatantly hunting and recklessly using Quad bikes and allowing the hounds to roam out of control causing disruption to local wildlife and the public.

In addition to this the National Trust also historically banned Trail Hunting on it's land after numerous breaches of its rules.

The Ledbury Hunt continue to illegally hunt foxes in breach of the 2004 Hunting Act, block live badger setts which also illegal and use terrier men on Quad Bikes (sometimes on public roads without number plates) to flush out escaping foxes with terrier dogs and the hunt hounds are often seen running out of control and  endangering wildlife.

We need your help to put a STOP to this and prevent The Ledbury Hunt from holding their annual meet in Ledbury town centre and ban them from celebrating this barbaric so called 'tradition' of hunting and killing and tormenting our precious wildlife.

Around 85% of the public are opposed to fox hunting. Please sign the petition and stand up for our wildlife!
