A worrying trend on social media is accounts showing owls being kept as pets. These animals can be purchased, legally, in the UK for as little as £100. And although they are beautiful, they come with a huge burden of responsibility. Many of these owls end up in rescue centres, or just abandoned.

It should not be possible for someone to buy what should be a wild animal. As the vast majority of people are ill-equipped to provide an environment in which the birds can thrive.
