Ban the inhumane Evala slaughter in Togo
The Issue
President Faure Gnassingbé Togo’s National Assembly The Ministries of Culture and Environment
Traditional Chiefs of the Kara Region
- Stop the BARBARIC Dog and Cat Meat Trade and Animal Sacrifices in Togo and Togo’s Evala
- Sign to End Animal Cruelty and Protect Togo’s Heritage
- Every year in Northern Togo, the Evala is a coming-of-age ritual for young men. But behind this event is a horrific cruel torture and killing of countless helpless Animals — especially Dogs Goats are brutally killed for meat or sacrificed in a barbaric rituals.
THIS MUST END
In Togo Dogs are kept in inhumane conditions beaten, bound , tortured and slaughtered. Other Animals are also tortured sacrificed causing them fear, pain, and terrible suffering.
- These savage Animal cruelty and killing practices are happening everyday in Togo in particularly during Evala.
- These are not only cruel but they pose serious public health risks and damage to communities.
- Dangerous to public health, increasing the risk of zoonotic disease transmission and lacking basic hygiene standards.Contrary to the values of compassion and respect for life, which are increasingly being embraced across Africa and the world.
These Animal cruelties are extremely Damaging to Togo’s international image, as footage and reports of such barbaric savagery and harmful practices spark global outrage and disgust discourage ethical tourism and investment. Tainting Togo’s reputation around the world.
We’re calling on: President Faure Gnassingbé Togo’s National Assembly
The Ministries of Culture and Environment Traditional Chiefs of the Kara Region
TO TAKE URGENT Action to:
- Ban the Dog and Cat meat trade – from breeding and transport to slaughter and sale.
- End Animal sacrifices – especially those tied to the Evala.
Promote humane, cruelty free symbolic alternatives that honor tradition without Animal cruelty suffering and killing. - Educate communities about Animal care protection and rights, compassion, and public health.
Togo has a rich cultural legacy.
But cruelty is NOT culture. Modernizing traditions to reflect empathy and dignity is not a betrayal of heritage it’s a celebration of progress.
Over 100 countries are already taking steps to BAN the Dog and Cat meat trade and have stopped Animal sacrifices.
We urge Togo to lead West Africa with compassion.
Sign this petition now to demand humane CRUELTY FREE reforms and a better future—for Animals and people. Share widely to help us reach global attention and show the people of Togo that the WORLD SUPPORTS COMPASSION over cruelty.
