The Issue

We have been made aware of a horrifying decision in relation to guinea pig welfare and the BBC's apparent revelry in making information known to their readers on the exact legality of such disgusting acts.

As a registered charity, for the benefit of guinea pigs and their welfare in the UK, we were horrified and disgusted to read the BBC article "Guinea pigs to be bred for food by off-grid family after council approval."

We are also utterly disgusted that Pembrokeshire Council has backed what they proposed to do.

Anyone who has ever met a guinea pig knows what gentle, vulnerable, harmless, affectionate and trusting creatures they are.

Whilst Dave and Mayu Phillips from Wales proposed to breed and eat a larger variety of guinea pig, often referred to as "Cuy," which are eaten in South America, there is no possible justification for the sick practice of breeding and eating guinea pigs in the UK.

It is also extremely disturbing that it is legal to keep and kill such defenceless creatures "for food."

If you care about the welfare of guinea pigs, or the inhumane slaughter of animals that most of us know as gentle loving pets, please sign our petition to put an end to this inhumane, barbaric practice.
