Ban the Current State of the Super Smash Bros Fandom

The Issue

The Super Smash Bros fandom used to be a place for hype until 2014 where fake fans of Daisy who were jealous of Mario character Rosalina (the trolls' support for Daisy was only to spite Rosalina and not for really supporting Daisy. They didn't like Daisy before), went from the Mario fandom, entered the Super Smash Bros fandom and changed it forever. The Super Smash Bros fandom became the first place of popular-sized toxicity. This newly recreated fandom was the most toxic fandom in the world and still is the most toxic fandom in the world. The power the Super Smash Bros fandom has over the wider gaming community and with extension, the movie, anime and music communities and eventually politics and after, nearly every person at social media on the Internet, is scary. Its power is to the point that nearly every person on the Internet who has spoken about Nintendo at least once, has parroted the fake narratives that the Super Smash Bros fandom made like the "wasted slot" narrative. It gave rise to the mainstream use of character wars, the successor to the console wars. They wanted to take down everything with them just to spite Rosalina. Because this newly recreated Super Smash Bros fandom was puritanical because of the Super Smash Bros fans' childhood background of mothers and fathers telling them to think of sexuality as the ultimate evil of the world, their first target was Fire Emblem Fates (because of the Super Smash Bros fandom's grudges at relationships) and from there, branched out to targeting their hate to the rest of Fire Emblem. The trolling tactics they first used at the start of the takeover of the Super Smash Bros fandom were used to type all sorts of nothingness about both the Mario character Rosalina and the Nintendo franchise Fire Emblem. On to the decade starting at 2020 and the logic of the Super Smash Bros fandom has taken over not just every Nintendo franchise's fandom but every other fandom in gaming. The character wars at that year extended from characters to games. At the Super Smash Bros fandom, death threats over Byleth from Fire Emblem and the fake fans writing all sorts of nothingness just to say "I hate Byleth". At 2020, a gamer broke his PS4 in public because he acted like Genshin Impact was a clone of another game. One more at 2020, the Final Fantasy fandom became really toxic with Super Smash Bros fandom toxicity bringing in what the Final Fantasy 7 shipping wars are like today (the Tifa fandom and the Aerith fandom making death threats, lies, harassment, slurs, character exclusions from photos/videos and having a fake-accusation-off to see who can make the most fake accusations. All because of jealousy) and molding the discourse for Final Fantasy games forever, where the toxicity badly hurt sales of Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and made more damage to the sales of Final Fantasy XV. At 2021, the entire culture of the Switch 2 rumour mill particularly the concept of dooming about gaming, in gaming fandoms, was from the Super Smash Bros fandom's trolling tactic of negativity for the sake of negativity. One more at 2021, a person from the Super Smash Bros fandom accused Super Smash Bros director Masahiro Sakurai of doing 9/11 just because the director didn't add Waluigi to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. At 2022/2023, a Sonic gamer was doxxed for liking Sonic Frontiers. At 2023, when Scaramouche was revealed for Genshin Impact, the Genshin Impact fans doxxed and harassed the voice actors and even killed cats the fans assumed to look like Scaramouche.

The worst of the Super Smash Bros fandom is at these sites:

  • Twitter
  • GameFAQs
  • ResetERA
  • YouTube
  • Reddit
  • Discord
  • Smashboards

Other sites have strong Super Smash Bros fandom toxicity but their strict rules stops a decent amount of it:

  • Famiboards

Certain sites have a vastly different political leaning than Twitter, making those sites more wholesome and that made those sites have a lot less Super Smash Bros fandom toxicity but they still have pockets of toxicity from that fandom:

  • Bluesky

This is the legacy the Super Smash Bros fandom placed all over the Internet. The rise of popular toxicity.

On to now, the Switch 2 was just revealed at January 16 at this year, 2025. Not long after, Super Smash Bros rumours are in the wild again. This means Super Smash Bros will be back. The discourse that hates on Rosalina, Fire Emblem, Super Smash Bros games, characters, RPGs and at Masahiro Sakurai? It will be worse this time.

The state of the Super Smash Bros fandom is about character wars, game wars, harassment/threats and destroying the hype. Nintendo, you have one job:

Ban the current state of the Super Smash Bros fandom! Show the world that characters and games are a good thing! Show the world that unity and motivation are good ideas! Show the world that love, compassion and fun are good and that hating to divide people for the reason of jealousy is dangerously bad! Show the world that lying is dangerously bad! Show the world that characters deserving an equal chance is good and that jealousy over characters is toxic! Show the world the idea of loving all characters is good! Show the world that hype is good and that trolling to bring down characters is toxic!
