The Issue

It’s time to protect cats from cruelty! Tell our representatives to ban the brutal, unnecessary practice of declawing now.

Declawing isn’t just a simple nail trim. It is a painful, irreversible surgical procedure that amputates part of a cat’s toes. This often leads to chronic pain, behavioral issues, and long-term health problems. Many pet parents who’ve had this done in the past were unaware of the lasting harm it causes.

As of mid‑2026, five U.S. states (plus D.C.) and 14 municipalities have enacted bans on declawing (with only very limited exceptions when a veterinarian determines the procedure is medically necessary to treat a cat's medical condition). And declawing cats is widely illegal globally, especially across Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Israel. It’s time for our state to stand on the right side of history and do the same.

Cats bring warmth, companionship, and unconditional love into our homes. They deserve to live free from unnecessary suffering.

Approximately 20-22% of cats in the US are declawed!

Please sign and share this petition today. Tell our representatives: Ban cat declawing now!

In Pennsylvania, House Bill 1716 has been tabled (set aside), so we must urge Liz Hanbidge (the primary sponsor) among others to once again persue this bill!
