Ban the breaking and racing of 2 year old thoroughbred race horses

The Issue

Over 300 race horses are ridden to their deaths at race courses across the UK and Ireland every year. Thoroughbreds have been selectively bred for speed. This means their bones are more fragile than their ancestors were. Just clipping a fence, or another horses hoof or stumbling can result in a broken leg. The vast majority of these breaks result in the horse being euthanised. These type of injuries are a regular occurrence in racing.

Horses are not mature mentally or physically until they are SIX YEARS OLD! Their bones are not even fused until this time. But the racing industry are happy to put their fragile bodies through gruelling training and dangerous races.

THOROUGHBREDS ARE FLAT RACED FROM TWO AND JUMP RACED FROM THREE!!

Flat raced thoroughbreds are broken as late yearlings, AGAINST the advice of vets and the standards of other equestrian disciplines.

A YEARLING OR TWO YEAR OLD IS NOT EVEN MATURE ENOUGH TO BE RIDDEN!!

The only reason for this practice is to use and throw away horses in the pursuit of gambling money.

We would like to appeal to the government to  change the minimum age of racing from horses being two years of age to three years of age. While this won't stop all equine deaths altogether in racing,  it will vastly reduce the number of unnecessary casualties and injuries, and give the youngsters an extra 18 months to mature.

WE NEED RESPONSIBLE BREEDING AND EARLY CARE AND WELFARE!

Please sign our petition and share it far and wide To reach 100, 000 signatures to get it into parliament for discussion

Launched 1st January  2025 on every racehorses Birthday.

Rest in peace all the amazing thoroughbreds we have lost in the " sport " of racing.
