Le problème

For a little while taxidermy and bones have become popular thanks to the goth and the oddity community. Among those bats have been particularly targeted. However they are endangered and the iucn had to change many of them status to near threatened, threatened or critically threatened.

Bats are vital to our ecosystem, they save 3.7 to 53 billion of dollars for the agriculture industry. They consume each night, their body weight in insect including disease vector insects like mosquitoes. Fruit bats or flying foxes are the primary pollinator of our planet, yes before the bees who are close behind. They also help with reforestation as they may carry fruits or seed miles away from the place they've eat it.

Aside from all of this bats are intelligent animals, believed to be as smart as primates. They live in colony counting up to million individuals, they are highly social and some like the common vampire bat even have best friends.

In order to kill them poachers will gas them all, meaning a group of a hundred bat can be taken down all at once. They are later sold to taxidermists who commercialise this bats. Most bats - and all of those poached - only reproduce once a year. Meaning it would take decades to recreate a roost loss.

The increase of demand for bat taxidermy is now listed as a major threat to bats survival in the wild. While most bats are protected in Europe, America and Australia, the import of bats from Asia is still allowed in all continent. And the sale often takes place online on platform like Instagram or Facebook. The rise of demand for bat specimens contribute considerably the decrease of wild bat populations.

A decline of 25% of bats worldwide populations has already been observed by the iucn. We need to act now to stop the bat trade and rise awareness on the problem. Despite being educated many taxidermists choose to put their money instead of protecting the bats. We need your help to make it stop. You are a hope for bats.
