The issue

The Australian Governments are lying about the pain and damage  inflicted upon animals and the environment by 1080 baits. It frequently kills non targeted animals, including wildlife and aquatic life. It's also an exceptionally cruel and painful way to kill animals. They are continually layout out baiting program nationally.

Feral animals do cause a load of damage to our native wildlife and livestock, but so does 1080! It’s not the animals fault they are a pest. They need to be eradicated as humanely as possible.

I own livestock and we have foxes attempting to prey on our livestock. It is up the livestock owners to take responsibility for your livestock with adequate housing or dogs, cameras, guns and or traps. If you have no feelings for foxes and wild dogs (not dingoes, feral dogs), things of the possibility of secondary poisoning at least. Animals get sick and die finding baits and from eating the bodies of poisoned animals. Alternate ways are more labour intensive but it targets only the feral animals that do wreak havoc on our environment.

Our dog ingested three 1080 baits on a private property and, miraculously, survived after being on life support. She needed to learn to walk again, but enjoyed her life, despite her wobbly walk. Her story was felt by thousands of people on the Facebook page; Elsa the greyhound survived 1080 fox bait poisoning. She survived with a wobbly walk for five years after the bait and her recent passing has impelled me to campaign against it's use in Australia.

We owe it to her and all the creatures that have suffered as a result of this bait.

A study by Deakin University has proven that dogs experience extreme suffering when ingesting these baits. It is safe to assume foxes, wild dogs, cats, livestock and probably many native birds and animals suffer as well.

They are developing 1080 to use on animals such as deer, so not only will carnivores be affected by all livestock and our native herbivores.

It destroys marine life when entering waterways.

It is banned in many parts of the world and in limit use in other parts, but it is a "go to" for Australia and New Zealand.

The rubbish they spread that Australian wildlife is resistant because of our environment, doesn't apply to the rest of the world, and I regard it as bunk to brain wash people into thinking it's safe to use. It's NOT SAFE! It has killed people overseas.

The Deakin study describes the death to be as follows:

".../ anywhere between 30 minutes and 20 hours.

Symptoms of 1080 poisoning include:

  • frenzied running
  • uncontrollable vomiting, urinating and defecation
    howling and ‘screaming’
  • failure to respond to guardian
  • confusion and fear
  • coma and finally,
  • death"

It's used in Mexico, Japan, Korea, and Israel to control rodent populations.
Limited use in the US:
While banned for general rodent control in the US, it's still licensed for use against coyotes that prey on livestock.
Banned in many countries:
Due to its high toxicity, 1080 is banned in most of Europe and was outlawed in the US in the early 1970s after civilian deaths.

HELP BAN THE USE OF THIS CRUEL POISON!

Do it for Elsa. Please share.

The last photo of Elsa, take hours before she died in my arms.
