Ban Shark Nets

Ban Shark Nets
The issue
Shark nets are culling devices that don't belong in our waters. In Queensland they have killed 826 sharks in last year along with 21 dolphins, six humpback whales, 110 turtles and 90 other marine animals.
"But they protect us right"! Wrong. Shark nets actually entice sharks. As when
by-catch, such as turtles or dolphins get caught in the nets, the nets then become baited, making the sharks curious and come up to the nets. The shark nets aren't one continuous net they are 186m wide and 4m deep with plenty of room for the sharks to go around, below or even above sometimes.
40% of sharks that are caught are on the beach side; they are going back out into the ocean, meaning they have already been in the bay and have not hurt anyone.
So how can you justify killing so many innocent animals in their home for a false sense of protection?
For the people who think sharks should die and that they are man eating monsters - without sharks entire ecosystem could fall out of balance.
Sharks not only maintain the species below them in the food chain, but also indirectly maintain seagrass and coral reef habitats. Sharks keep food webs in balance and encourage biodiversity to flourish by feeding on those species that are most numerous, allowing other species a chance to also grow in numbers. Good ecosystems need biodiversity, and in turn, sharks are an important element of healthy biodiversity
They also form dense underwater meadows that suck carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) out of the atmosphere. Plummeting shark numbers means more sea turtles around to deplete the seagrasses which, once destroyed, release their blue carbon stores and contribute to global warming.
There are other options than these killing devices (aka shark nets), like drones keeping an eye out for any sharks. Eco shark barriers that don't entangle marine life but still divert shark away. Or Sonar clever boys that can detect any movement nearby!
WA has banned shark nets because of protesters - we can do the same!
If we keep treating animals as less important, then we will no longer have a world to live in. Without animals we won't survive. Without oceans we won't survive. Without sharks we wont survive!
We kill 100 million sharks every year. Sharks kill 2 people a year world wide.
Who are the real monsters?
