Ban schools from forcing CLocked app on personal devices
The Issue
As a student, I'm deeply concerned about the invasion of privacy and the undue stress that the CLocked app causes our children. This app, imposed on students' personal devices, is widely used in schools across the United States and demands full access to private files and data. I believe this is not only an overreach of institutional authority but also a violation of our children's personal space and rights.
In today's digital age, students already face immense pressure from academic responsibilities. Adding excessive monitoring through a privacy-invasive app like CLocked exacerbates their stress. It's crucial for us to cultivate an educational environment where students can learn without feeling constantly surveilled. Moreover, many students have reported technical issues with their devices due to the app, hindering their ability to complete assignments and detracting from their learning experience.
The Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to privacy, protecting individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures. Forcing students to install an app that accesses personal data contradicts these fundamental principles. Schools should foster environments of trust, encouraging students to engage with educational materials willingly, rather than mandating intrusive measures.
Instead of mandatory implementation, schools could provide students with institutional devices to use during school hours, ensuring that their personal phones remain private. This approach protects privacy while maintaining academic integrity.
I urge the Department of Education to prohibit educational institutions from requiring CLocked on personal devices. By doing so, we protect our children's rights, support their mental wellbeing, and foster a more trusting and supportive educational atmosphere.
Please sign this petition to demand action and ensure the privacy and freedom of our students are respected.
