For the safety of our students, Instagram pages dedicated solely to fight videos in K-12 schools must be stopped. 

School fight pages traumatize students by forcing them to relive the moments when they have been assaulted and hospitalized, increase bullying when other students openly mock assault victims, and encourage a harmful culture in schools by promoting violent conflicts for entertainment. 

The presence of school fight pages also places an undo burden on schools who work hard every day to create safe learning environments and are forced to contend with online platforms that counter their efforts.

However, when someone reports a fight page, Instagram refuses to take it down, claiming that it doesn't violate community guidelines.

That must change.

Instagram's own community guidelines state that they do not allow content that:

• Targets private individuals to degrade or shame them.
• Contain serious threats of harm to public and personal safety.

We believe that school fight videos are within these parameters, and that Instagram should create a new policy to ban content that promotes school violence. 

We believe that for the safety of our students, Instagram must take down all platforms that promote minors fighting in learning environments across the country.
