Dear friends,
I would like to thank everyone in Toronto, GTA, and around the world for signing in my petition and supporting this important initiative. I have good and not so good news to share.
Good (or even excellent) news is that the organizers of the Russian event that outraged all of us, recently put a statement that they would NOT have the event on May 8, 2022 as planned , and rescheduled it for May 7, 2023. They cited public health concerns due to COVID as a reason :) See attached. No comments on that. So, I assume we can declare a small tactical victory here.
The news I don't like at all is that I tried to contact the Mayor's office to confirm that a street event of this nature for May 8 2022 has not been authorized, or, was authorized and latter cancelled, or, was never submitted, but would ever be authorized if it was... even for year 2023 or 2043.
I wanted these assurances, because, if the recent events taught us anything at all, the first thing would be that you should never trust the Russians. To understand the situation, I made several phone calls and sent three e-mails to the mayor's office asking for the clarification and each time attaching a link to our petition the growing list of your signatures.
Unfortunately I got no response at all. Thus, to have a full, decisive, and complete victory, I would encourage everyone of you contact the office of the mayor and ask them directly if they would allow this ugly event to take place in our beautiful city. They can be reached here:
