Ban Russia, Belarus and Iran from participating in ICPC programming competitions
The Issue
Civilized world should stay united, and show solidarity with brave people of Ukraine.
We ask ICPC committee to recognise and condemn Russian war in Ukraine and ban Russian Federation from participating in the ICPC competition.
Also, ban Belarus[1] and Iran[2] for their material support of war crimes by Russian Federation on Ukrainian land.
What is ICPC?
The International Collegiate Programming Contest, known as the ICPC, is an annual multi-tiered competitive programming competition among the universities of the world.
The ICPC is an extra-curricular, competitive programming sport for students at universities around the world. ICPC competitions provide gifted students opportunities to interact, demonstrate, and improve their teamwork, programming, and problem-solving process. The ICPC is a global platform for academia, industry, and community to shine the spotlight on and raise the aspirations of the next generation of computing professionals as they pursue excellence.
Sadly, in Russian scenario, these professionals may grow into war criminals.
WHY IS IT A CORRECT THING TO BAN RUSSIA?
Russian programmers are contributing to Russian war in Ukraine
- According to the investigation by Bellingcat, Russia employs programmers to configure cruise missiles that hit Ukrainian residential buildings.
Can we ever be sure that these Russian programmers haven't started their programming journey with one of the ICPC competitions? - Russian hackers suspected over cyber attack on US airports
- Russian vigilante hacker: 'I want to help beat Ukraine from my computer'
Russian participants (and coaches) have in-person meetings with Putin
This creates an opportunity to recruit young programmers into Russian intelligence.
- Vladimir Putin Congratulates ITMO's Programmers on Winning ACM ICPC
- Some photos of ICPC World champions and their coaches with Russian president
Other international organisations banned Russia already
- FIFA banned Russia and Belarus from official competitions
- Russia and Belarus teams suspended from FIDE competitions
Russian education system stands behind the illegal actions of their country
One example is Russian rectors support war in Ukraine.
