Despite implementing safety features, the platform continues to face ongoing challenges with inappropriate interactions. Reports have surfaced of adults using the platform to target children, highlighting a critical failure in safeguarding vulnerable users.

Additionally, the platform permits access to inappropriate content that is not suitable for children. Games featuring explicit themes and language are prevalent, often bypassing Roblox's own content guidelines. This exposure can have detrimental effects on young minds and violates the safe space that Roblox claims to provide.

Moreover, Roblox lacks sufficient privacy controls. Children often reveal personal information without understanding the risks, and the platform's settings do not adequately prevent data from falling into the wrong hands. Privacy violations expose children to potential harm and undermine parental efforts to keep them secure online.

It's crucial for Roblox to implement more robust verification processes, including age verification, to ensure that its users are who they claim to be. Furthermore, stronger community guidelines must be enforced, and automatic filters should be improved to prevent inappropriate content and behaviors.

The time has come to safeguard the millions of children who use Roblox by demanding accountability and action from the platform to address these safety lapses. We, the undersigned, are calling for urgent action regarding the online gaming platform Roblox. While the platform is marketed as a creative and social space for young people, it has become increasingly clear that Roblox presents significant safety risks that cannot be ignored.

Key Safety Concerns:

1. Inadequate Protection Against Predatory Behaviour

Despite their ‘safety measures’ and recent plans to roll out compulsory facial recognition or ID checks for players wanting to access its chat features, Roblox continues to face ongoing issues with inappropriate interactions, grooming attempts, and adults gaining access to spaces designed for children. The platform’s moderation systems have repeatedly failed to prevent harmful communication.

2. Exposure to Inappropriate Content

Children can be exposed to violent themes, sexualised avatars, explicit language, and user-generated content that bypasses filters. These issues persist across games, private servers, and chat functions—even with parental controls enabled.

3. Insufficient Moderation in User-Created Games

Because Roblox relies heavily on user-generated content, the volume of material far exceeds what the current moderation system can effectively manage. Many harmful or misleading games remain accessible for extended periods before being removed, if they are removed at all.

4. Misleading Monetisation Targeting Children

The platform encourages spending real money on in-game items, often using persuasive design loops that exploit young players’ lack of financial understanding. This raises ethical concerns around consumer protection.

5. Data Privacy Concerns

With millions of children using the app, concerns have been raised about how data is collected, stored, and shared. Young users are often unaware of the implications of their digital footprint.

Our Request

Given these persistent and serious safety concerns, we believe that Roblox currently poses an unacceptable risk to children. We therefore call on regulators, child-safety organisations, and digital oversight authorities to:

Conduct a full investigation into the platform’s safety practices
Implement stricter regulations and accountability measures
Consider banning the platform until it can demonstrate effective and reliable protections for minors

The wellbeing of children must come before entertainment platforms and profit-driven user growth. We urge those in positions of authority to act immediately.
