In February 2021, the Estate of Michael Jackson sued HBO for violating a non-disparagement clause in a 1992 contract by agreeing to run the documentary.  On December 14, 2020, HBO lost an appellate bid to avoid arbitration, as a three-judge panel for the Ninth Court Court of Appeal upheld the lower court decision favoring the Jackson estate. After a five-year legal battle, in October 2024, the case was dismissed by both parties resulting in HBO removing the film and never to return to the platform.  All information on this is available publicly online, such as this article from Popculture  website and wiki
