I was heartbroken as I sat watching videos of innocent puppies crammed into tiny cages, in filthy conditions, within puppy mills, their sad eyes reflecting their suffering. These mills, operating across Canada, breed puppies in overcrowded and unhygienic environments, prioritizing profit over the wellbeing of these living beings. It's a horrifying reality that many are unaware of when they see adorable puppies in pet stores. We must bring an end to this cruel practice.
Puppy mills notoriously neglect the health and welfare of the dogs. Dogs are often kept in small confined spaces, with little to no ventilation, and insufficient food and water. Many of these pups suffer from untreated illnesses, genetic disorders, and severe behavioural issues due to the lack of proper care and socialization. According to the Humane Society International/Canada, there are tens of thousands of dogs suffering in these mills, illustrating the urgent need for intervention.
To end puppy mills in Canada, we need to push for stronger laws and regulations that prohibit unethical breeding practices.
