The Issue

For many years now, I have silently suffered alongside countless others from the constant onslaught of deafening noise pollution in the name of religious festivities in India. Public processions involving DJs and boomboxes have taken over our streets, transforming them into chaotic and unbearable environments where peace in our daily lives becomes a distant memory.

The overwhelming and jarring noises they produce do not merely disrupt daily routines; they penetrate every facet of life, from children trying to study, to elderly individuals attempting to rest, to pets and wildlife that cannot escape the relentless volume. Our cities have become sound chambers where temples of peace and tranquility are rare.

Moreover, the irony is not lost on us that these practices, which are purportedly undertaken in the name of devotion, actually desecrate the very spirit of religious ceremonies. True religious expression should foster harmony and reflect compassion, yet these loud processions achieve the opposite, inadvertently offending the very sentiments they claim to uphold.

India's tax-paying, ordinary citizens deserve a civic landscape that respects public tranquility and private peace. We need actionable solutions to reclaim our streets and mental sanctity. This can begin with a clear governmental ban on public processions involving DJs and boomboxes. Such an initiative would require implementing stringent noise control laws enforced by local bodies, providing a permit system for community events that adequately adheres to noise pollution regulations, and promoting awareness campaigns to educate the public on respecting shared spaces and religious diversity.

It's time for policies that address the modern issues of urban life, policies that honor both cultural traditions and the rights of our citizens to live in peace. By signing this petition, you can help us bring about the change we desperately need to restore needed peace for everyone affected. Please sign and encourage others to be part of this critical reform movement.
