The Issue

Growing up surrounded by the beauty of nature, I developed a deep affection for geese. These graceful creatures hold a special place in my heart, but their habitats and lives are increasingly threatened by plastic pollution. Every year, countless geese, other wildlife, and marine animals suffer and die because of the plastic waste that contaminates our ponds and oceans.

In Gwinnett County and throughout the USA, the issue of single-use plastics in schools and fast food chains continues to contribute significantly to this environmental crisis. Schools use an enormous number of plastic utensils daily, which often end up in landfills, and eventually, water bodies. Similarly, fast food restaurants dispense millions of plastic items every day. This unchecked use not only harms wildlife but also threatens our planet's future.

There are effective alternatives to plastic utensils, such as biodegradable or reusable cutlery. By adopting these options, we can significantly reduce plastic waste. Some schools and businesses have already begun transitioning, demonstrating that change is possible and viable.

We urge schools in Gwinnett County and across the USA, as well as fast food establishments, to eliminate the use of plasticware. This step is crucial for protecting our wildlife and preserving our environment for future generations.

Please sign this petition and help spread the word. Together, we can drive impactful change and protect the creatures and natural beauty that enrich our lives.
