The Issue

I recently faced a challenging and disheartening experience when I was denied an interview opportunity because I didn't fit the 'perfect employee' profile established by a company's personality assessment test. As an autistic individual, I can't help but feel that these tests are crafted in a way that unintentionally discriminates against people like me.

Personality assessment tests in hiring practices claim to assess the suitability of candidates by measuring certain traits and characteristics. However, these tests often fail to account for diversity in thought, experience, and neurodiversity. In Oregon, this issue is particularly pressing due to our commitment to embracing inclusive and diverse work environments.

Research has shown that these tests can be inadequate and biased, sometimes favoring extroverted and neurotypical traits over other valuable qualities. According to a study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, these assessments can lead to substantial bias, resulting in unfair exclusion from job opportunities for countless qualified individuals.

Moreover, the use of personality tests in employment settings often lacks transparency, putting applicants at a disadvantage and creating unnecessary barriers to entry. Such practices contradict the values of fairness and equality espoused by our great state of Oregon.

To foster an inclusive workforce, where every individual has an equal opportunity to contribute, it is crucial to address the legality of these assessment tests. By enacting legislation that prohibits the use of personality assessment tests in hiring processes across Oregon, we can ensure job opportunities are based on skills, experience, and potential rather than predefined personality metrics.

Sign this petition to urge Oregon lawmakers to take immediate action in banning personality tests in employment practices, ensuring a fair and inclusive environment for all job seekers, regardless of their neurological makeup or personal traits. Together, we can make a difference and support a more equitable job market in Oregon.
