New York has the chance to make history by protecting octopuses and our oceans before industrial octopus farming can ever begin.

A new bill (S7421/A8043), sponsored by Senator Martinez, would ban octopus farming statewide. It would prevent the sale, possession, or transport of farmed octopuses, and set a national precedent for ocean protection, animal welfare, and sustainable food practices.

Octopus farming is cruel, destructive, and unnecessary. These intelligent, sensitive animals suffer immensely in confinement. Farming them would fuel overfishing, spread pollution and disease, and put fragile marine ecosystems at risk and it is all for profit.

Right now, there are no octopus farms in New York. This bill is our chance to keep it that way and to act before the damage starts.

We call on the New York State Legislature to pass Bill S7421/A8043 immediately and to stand for a future where marine life is respected, not exploited.
