The Issue

The devastating reality of labor trafficking has hit close to home, touching the lives of over 500 nurses, including my own community, across 30 states. Recently, a nursing organization of New Jersey and its national organization entered into a partnership with Towne and Towne Kids , an organization currently facing serious allegations of labor trafficking. This partnership is a grave injustice, not only to the victims but to every nurse who stands against exploitation, given that the case was known to the organization since 2023.

Nursing organizations should embody the principles of CARE, INTEGRITY, and JUSTICE. By forming alliances with entities that have active and serious trafficking violation case, they compromise the very ideals they stand for. The professional community of nurses, dedicated to protecting life, should not inadvertently support those who exploit and abuse others for profit.

The current situation in New Jersey serves as a call to action. It is essential for all nursing organizations to establish strict guidelines that prohibit partnerships, in any capacity, with entities involved in trafficking violations.

This can be achieved through:

1) A comprehensive review of prospective partners’ legal and ethical standings, along with constant monitoring of their business practices.

2) By enforcing transparent policies that demand stringent background checks and continuous evaluations of partner organizations, nursing bodies can ensure they operate with INTEGRITY.

3) By allowing ALL members to vote if there will be questionable partnerships and all human rights data will be disclosed to members.

We urge all nursing organizations and members to stand UNITED against trafficking by implementing these recommendations IMMEDIATELY, thereby affirming their commitment to justice and ethical operations.

Trafficking has no place in our society, and certainly not within the institutions that represent compassion and care.

Please join me in signing this petition to demand accountability and ethical practices from nursing organizations nationwide. Let’s ensure that our voices make a difference in safeguarding our communities and the nursing profession from the shadows of trafficking.
