My name is Nekita, and I’m the mother of a survivor—a young woman who is still fighting for her life after a tragedy that never should have happened.

On September 28, 2024, my 21-year-old daughter, my baby girl and only child Kalie was involved in a devastating head-on collision on Highway 99 in Sutter County, California. Kalie wasn’t just a passenger—she was the victim. The driver of the vehicle she was in decided to take a hit of whippets—recreational nitrous oxide—and he lost control, crashing into another vehicle. Three innocent people died that day,  the driver of Kalie’s car and two innocent people in an  oncoming vehicle.

Kalie survived—but just barely....

She suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, underwent a hemicraniectomy and craniectomy, she has a tracheotomy and feeding tube, fractured bones, deep lacerations, and many other injuries. She can no longer speak or walk, and every moment of her life now is defined by pain, silence, and uncertainty. Her toddler son doesn’t understand why his mommy can’t come home.

All because of whippets—a legal, easily accessible, and incredibly dangerous drug that’s being sold in gas stations, smoke shops, and online like it’s candy.

Nitrous oxide is marketed as harmless fun, but it’s stealing futures, destroying families, and taking lives. The high lasts seconds. The consequences can last forever.

That’s why I’m begging for your help to BAN WHIPPETS.

My daughter never got a choice. But we do have a choice now—to stand up, speak out, and stop this madness before more lives are lost. My daughter is living proof of how fast whippets can shatter a life.
