The Issue

Our water supply and wildlife are under severe threat due to the proliferation of data centers, and it's a deeply personal issue for me. These gargantuan structures are not only consuming enormous amounts of energy and water, leading to local depletion and potential future scarcity, but they are also causing a detriment to our natural habitats. The trees are being cut down at an alarming rate to make way for these data centers, leading to loss of biodiversity and destruction of ecosystems.

In a world where we face escalating climate challenges, we cannot afford to disregard the environmental cost of unchecked technological expansion. The data centers are exacerbating deforestation, which is crucial for absorbing CO2 and regulating the earth's temperature. According to the Global Forest Watch, the world lost 340 million hectares of tree cover in the last two decades. Each data center exacerbates this grim statistic. Trees not only provide oxygen but are home to countless species and play a vital role in the water cycle.

Moreover, the magnetic fields generated by these data centers are disrupting bee populations, essential pollinators for global food crops. Research indicates that electromagnetic fields can disorientate bees, impacting their ability to forage, disrupting their navigation, and ultimately affecting pollination. This is not only alarming for biodiversity but also for human food security.

We need to come together to halt the construction of new data centers and lobby for the implementation of more sustainable technology solutions. The world must investigate alternatives like smart location decisions prioritizing brownfield sites, investing in renewable energy, and ensuring strict water usage regulations.

We owe it to future generations to act now. Let’s prioritize the health of our planet over redundant technological expansion. By signing this petition, you are joining a movement to secure a sustainable future, where water supply and biodiversity flourish, not flounder. Please sign this petition and urge policymakers to ban the construction of new data centers, protect our water resources, and save our wildlife.
