The Issue

This petition calls on local government officials and planning authorities to place a ban on the construction of new data centers in Strasburg, VA.

Data centers consume enormous amounts of water and electricity, straining local resources that are already in limited supply. According to a report by the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers are responsible for roughly 2% of the total electricity use in the United States, a number projected to grow exponentially. In Strasburg, where water supply is critical, additional data centers could exacerbate shortages, leading to severe repercussions for residents and local wildlife.

Beyond the environmental impact, the establishment of data centers often disrupts the socio-economic fabric of small towns. Increased traffic, noise pollution, and potential property devaluations can alter the character and quality of life that residents currently cherish.

If we do not act now, we risk losing what makes Strasburg and the Shenandoah Valley so unique and beloved. Sign this petition to protect our environment, preserve our resources, and maintain the character of our community for future generations. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a sustainable future for Strasburg.
