The Issue

I am a resident of Baltimore County, deeply concerned about the proposed development of Hyperscale AI data centers in our communities. These facilities pose catastrophic threats not only to our natural resources but also to our fundamental rights and local economy. We must act now to protect our future.

One of the primary concerns is the massive amount of water these data centers consume. Reports indicate that such facilities can use millions of gallons of water every day for cooling purposes. Considering Baltimore County's existing water challenges, this additional burden could severely affect our local water supply, leading to shortages that impact households and local businesses alike.

Moreover, the energy demands of Hyperscale AI data centers are enormous. These facilities will require more electrical power than entire towns, potentially destabilizing our power grid. The risk of increased blackouts and power outages is not something we, as residents, should be forced to endure for the sake of technological advancements that primarily benefit large corporations.

The financial implications are equally concerning. The tax breaks and subsidies often granted to these tech giants mean that the local economy might not see the benefits promised. Instead, we may face heightened taxes and reduced public services as local government struggles to balance its budget in the wake of providing infrastructure to these behemoths.

Most critically, Hyperscale AI data centers threaten our right to privacy. The potential for mass surveillance and data collection without proper oversight is alarming. As technology grows, so does the capacity for misuse, putting our personal information at risk of exploitation.

We urge the Baltimore County Council to consider these dire consequences. Let's prioritize the well-being of our communities and the preservation of our natural and financial resources over the interests of outside corporations. Our homes, our rights, and our environment must come first.

Please join me in calling on the Baltimore County Council members to ban the new construction of Hyperscale AI data centers. Your signature can make a difference. Together, we can protect our county now and for the future. Sign this petition to voice our collective demand for a sustainable, safe, and privacy-respecting community.
