Ban Motorised Scooters from All Pavements

Ban Motorised Scooters from All Pavements
The Issue
My beloved cat, Gizmo, was tragically killed outside his own back garden by three youths recklessly riding on a single motorised scooter. This horrifying incident has left a void in my life and has made me question the safety of our community streets for both our pets and children. Today, I am asking for your support to prevent such tragic events from happening again.
Motorised scooters, while convenient for many, have become a menace on pavements across our neighborhoods. Their increased presence has turned what should be safe spaces for pedestrians, children, and pets into hazardous zones. According to recent statistics, pedestrian accidents involving e-scooters have seen a disturbing rise. In 2022 alone, over 1000 incidents were reported across the UK, many involving vulnerable pedestrians who had little to no time to react.
Our community is built around safe spaces, where families and individuals can walk without fear. The use of motorised scooters on pavements violates this safety. If we do not take action now, the situation can only get worse, and more innocent lives will be compromised.
I propose a complete ban on the use of motorised scooters on all pavements across the UK. Instead, I urge local councils and the government to designate specific scooters lanes, much like bicycle lanes, ensuring that scooter users can travel safely without endangering pedestrians. This change would not only secure our pavements but also make urban and suburban areas safer for everyone.
This is not just about Gizmo. It's about preventing future tragedies. It's about ensuring that our communities remain safe and welcoming for all. Please join me in calling for a legislative change to protect our communities. Sign this petition to ban motorised scooters from all pavements and help make our neighborhoods safer for our loved ones.
