Ban Loud Bombs & Firecrackers in Goa

Ban Loud Bombs & Firecrackers in Goa
The Issue
Last Ganesh Chaturthi, as the clock ticked past 3 a.m., an unsettling reality unfolded in Goa. The skies, filled with deafening detonations of bombs and the resounding crack of firecrackers, shattered the peacefulness of the night. This was in complete disregard of Goa's noise ban, which demands silence post 10 p.m. The festive season became a tormenting experience for many, including my family.
I witnessed the harrowing sight of dead animals on the roads the next morning—dogs that had succumbed to the chaos of the previous night. Birds were seen fluttering frantically, utterly disoriented by the turmoil. At home, my dogs quivered in fear, traumatized by the incessant blasts. My heart raced with anxiety, not just for them, but also for a beloved family member who suffers from a heart condition. The blaring noise threatened their safety and well-being. Can we truly call this celebration, when it is layered with suffering and fear?
Festive occasions are meant to spread joy and unity, yet the reckless use of loud explosives eclipses the spirit of celebration. It threatens our shared environment, suffocates our air, and delivers discord instead of delight.
We call for an immediate ban on the sale and use of loud bombs and firecrackers in Goa. Violation of these rules should incur strict fines and real, enforceable penalties. Let’s work together to uphold the noise regulations, ensuring peace and respect for all during festive times.
Celebrating responsibly is about preserving the essence of our festivals—a balance between joy and consideration for fellow beings, the animals, and our environment. Sign this petition to pave the way for a tranquil and harmonious Goa, where festivals can light up our lives without casting darkness on others'. Join us in this important cause and help protect the dignity of life in Goa.
