While frequenting the OC Fair I was disturbed to notice a carnival booth offering live goldfish as a prize. I urge the OC Fair Board of Directors to acknowledge that fish are in fact sentient beings and should be treated with a degree of respect and consideration for their needs. 

Fish are delicate creatures which require food, certain temperatures of water, ph levels etc to ensure their health and well- being.

It is distressing to see living creatures being treated with such blatant disregard in 2022.

I urge the board to please reconsider this inhumane practice of offering live fish as prizes in 2023. They are obviously overstimulated, at times injured and have a limited likelihood of surviving the stress of not only having balls thrown in their direction, but also being carried throughout the fair by various patrons.

I believe that we as humanity can do better. I also believe how we treat living creatures has a pivotal impact on how young children learn to treat other human beings.
