On November 13, 2025, my life was irreversibly changed when my only son, Jeremy Cobb, tragically passed away from an overdose of 7oh Hydroxymitragynine. This substance, found in the product kratom, had been given to him with the belief that it would aid his sleeping disorder and alleviate some pain he was experiencing. Instead, we were left to grapple with his untimely death and the immense void it left in our hearts.

Kratom, an herbal supplement, has been touted for its various health benefits. However, the presence of 7oh Hydroxymitragynine—a highly potent and potentially lethal alkaloid—poses significant risks. Without adequate regulation, many unsuspecting individuals, like my son, may fall victim to its dangerous effects. According to the American Kratom Association, while kratom is believed to offer some wellness benefits, the lack of strict regulation heightens the risk of incidents like Jeremy’s becoming more common.

Missouri, like several other states, has yet to establish comprehensive safety guidelines and restrictions for kratom. This lack of oversight allows products containing hazardous substances to be easily accessible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has previously warned about the potential harms of kratom, including its interaction with other medications and the possibility of dependency and overdose.

To prevent further tragedies, it is imperative that the state of Missouri takes immediate action to regulate and ban the sale of kratom containing 7oh Hydroxymitragynine. By introducing stringent controls and thorough testing of products, we can shield families from the heartbreak of losing a loved one and ensure that consumer safety is prioritized.

We urge the Missouri State Legislature to enact legislation banning kratom with dangerous components like 7oh Hydroxymitragynine, to better protect its residents. This decisive action will not only honor Jeremy’s memory but also serve as a safeguard for countless others.
