United Nations to Investigate Cruel and Inhumane Treatment of Trans Prisoners in the UK

Following the appalling treatment of Tara Hudson being highlighted in the national Media and by the lack of Action by UK Courts and Ministry of Justice it has become clear that the UK's treatment of Trans Prisoners is not fit for purpose.
The detaining of Trans prisoners in single sex environments that does not match their lived gender identity and presentation amounts to cruel and inhumane treatment and the continuation to detain an individual within this enviornment despite protests and advice to the contray amounts to the willful torture of a Prisoner and is contray to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Trans people as a community have a self harm rate that some research has shown is over 80% and studies have estimated that up to 40% of Trans people will attempt suicide at some point during their lives. The Failure of the UK to protect and impliment appropriate procedures for the safe detention of Trans prisoners some of who may be incredibly vulnerable leaves little option for us to call for the United Nations to highlight these clear Human Rights Abuses and place pressure on the UK government to radically reform their approach to the treatment of trans people within the criminal justice system.
We ask UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to instruct the UN Human Rights Council to launch an investigation into this area and to send a rapporteur to the UK at the earliest oppourtunity for this to take place.
