Today's news is most distressing as yet another horse suffers a terrible death.
Try Pickle hit the first hurdle hard at a jumps race at Casterton today. He continued running and was pulled over shortly after the hurdle when it was discovered he had suffered a fractured leg. He was killed on track.
Please join the Animal Justice Party and the Coalition for the Protection of Race Horses in expressing your distress about the death of Try Pickle at Casterton by writing directly to the Racing Minister Martin Pakula and the Minister of Agriculture Jaala Pulford:
martin.pakula@parliament.vic.gov.au
jaala.pulford@parliament.vic.gov.au
It is important that as many letters as possible are sent and each must be polite, to the point and emphasising the need to ban jumps racing immediately. Some points you could include:
• Jumps race horses are underperformers in flat races
• are forced to jump while carrying heavier jockeys
• Jumps racing is 20 times more dangerous than flat racing
• South Australia has called an enquiry into the “sport” with a view to phasing it out
• Attempts to make the ‘sport’ safer have failed
• I join the Animal Justice Party in calling on the Victorian Racing Minister Martin Pakula and Minister of Agriculture, Jaala Pulford to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1986 to reflect a ban on Jumps Racing.
Thank you.
