Ban IXL in Cleburne ISD
Ban IXL in Cleburne ISD
The Issue
There's a personal story behind this petition that resonates deeply with me and many students in Cleburne ISD. Like many students, I have struggled with the pressure and anxiety made by the use of IXL, a digital learning platform active within our school district. The endless drills, punitive scoring system, and lack of emotional support have negatively impacted most of my fellow students in EVERY SCHOOL I HAVE BEEN TO IN CLEBURNE
IXL’s algorithm-focused approach often results in showing you how un-smart and dumb you are rather than understanding, showing you why you are wrong, and explaining. Research from reputable educational bodies has indicated that learning should be a holistic experience that fosters curiosity and creativity, rather than merely drilling facts. The constant fear of losing points and the never-ending questions can lead to a significant increase in stress levels among students. This style of digital learning doesn't cater to different learning styles and can discourage students who require more interactive or varied methods of engagement.
At a time when mental health among students is a growing concern, continuing to utilize a platform that prioritizes rote learning over comprehensive understanding is counterproductive. Studies show that supportive, well-rounded educational tools promote not just academic success but also personal growth and emotional well-being.
This is why we are calling on Cleburne ISD to take immediate action by banning IXL. Replace it with technologies and educational tools that offer a balanced approach—platforms that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Options like personalized learning programs or tools that include interactive modules have been proven more effective and nurturing.
Help us protect student's growth and future success by advocating for healthier digital learning environments. Sign this petition to urge Cleburne ISD to replace IXL with tools that cherish and cultivate every student's potential.
