This “learning program” has claimed to help students individual needs and make them more confident in learning. IXL has done the exact opposite. Many students claim that they have stayed up past 12 at night from this program, giving them little to no sleep for the next day. With the ‘Smartscore’ system when you get one right up only go up 1-2 points, but when you get one wrong you can go down by 7-10+!! This makes it very frustrating for students, making them less confident in their own learning. This also causes students to have very high stress, anxiety, and even some cases of depression. Each IXL can take up to an 1+, and with multiple each night, students get little to no sleep. IXL also includes horrible explanations. When teacher tell students to “read the explanation” it just doesn’t make sense to them and even some teachers get confused. IXL could never have a stopping point, making it go on forever. At this rate some students give up entirely and start using Ai. This defeats the purpose of learning, making students get less and less out of it each and every day. Some schools even report Chromebook damages from students doing IXL. If students are breaking their Chromebook’s from rage and frustration, their is clearly something wrong. IXL, is not what it claims to be, but it is endless hours of torture for students.
