Todays update is dedicated to one of my heroes/role models, Olof Palme.

As a teen in Sweden, I had the privilege to grow up under his leadership of the Swedish Social Democrats. And many of my personal core values have been formed from having Olof Palme as a political role model in my early life.

As an adult I grieve how there are no such leaders as Olof Palme to be found anywhere in the  world we live in today. We live in an era of extreme violence, where capitalism and corporations are put before all human rights and natures preservation.

The love of money is the root of all evil, as it says in the bible. Funny (peculiar) how christian fundamentalists, like the CUFI actively works and supports the destruction of Palestine and the Palestinian people. Please watch the movie Praying for Armageddon if you have the chance. It was made prior to the October 7th events mind you.

Back to Olof Palme

As leader of a new generation of Swedish Social Democrats, Olof Palme was often described as a "revolutionary reformist" and self-identified as a progressive. Domestically, his leftist views, especially the drive to expand labour union influence over business ownership, engendered a great deal of hostility from the organized business community.

In October 1973, during the Yom Kippur War, Sweden's then Minister for Foreign Affairs Krister Wickman criticized Israel and said the problems in the Middle East could not be solved by military superiority. In June 1981, Sweden condemned Israel's attack on the Osirak nuclear reactor in Iraq as a "clear violation of international law". In July 1982, after Israel's invasion of Lebanon, Prime Minister Olof Palme compared Israel's treatment of Palestinian children to Nazi Germany's treatment of Jewish children in the Nazi concentration camps and ghettos of World War II.

In December 1988, Palestine Liberation Organization chairman Yasser Arafat visited Stockholm by invitation of the Swedish government. After two days of negotiations, Arafat announced that he would now accept Israel's right to exist and he denounced all forms of terrorism.

On the international scene, Palme was a widely recognized political figure because of his:

*harsh and emotional criticism of the United States over the Vietnam War;
*vocal opposition to the crushing of the Prague Spring by the Soviet Union;
*criticism of European Communist regimes, including labeling the Husák regime as "The Cattle of Dictatorship" (Swedish: "Diktaturens kreatur") in 1975;
*campaigning against nuclear weapons proliferation;
*criticism of the Franco Regime in Spain, calling the regime "goddamn murderers" (Swedish: "satans mördare"; see Swedish profanity) after its execution of ETA and FRAP militants in September 1975;
*opposition to apartheid, branding it as "a particularly gruesome system", and support for economic sanctions against South Africa;
*support, both political and financial, for the African National Congress (ANC), the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Polisario Front;
*visiting Fidel Castro's Cuba in 1975, during which he denounced Fulgencio Batista's government and praised contemporary Cuban revolutionaries;
*strong criticism of the Pinochet regime in Chile;
*support, both political and financial, for the FMLN-FDR in El Salvador and the FSLN in Nicaragua; and, role as a mediator in the Iran–Iraq War.

Today marks 38 years since his assassination on Sveavägen in Stockholm.

I´ll never forget that night. I was out dancing with my friends in a club in the center of Stockholm. At about 01.00 the police came and closed down the venue. Me and my friend went to get a cab home, we walked the short distance up to Sveavägen, came across the sight where the murder was committed (not knowing who), it was some police tape, a big blood stain and someone had left a red rose.

Me and my friend hauled a cab, jumped in, and in the cab the driver (who was an immigrant) had the radio on, and tears where rolling down his eyes...

International politics has not been the same since Olof Palme left. Diplomacy is no where to be found, international laws are blatantly broken, and the care for all human rights are continuously being broken.

That ends todays update.

Ban and Boycott Israel from ALL international events and Free Palestine!!!

As always, Respectfully/Lotta
