Every celebration has turned into a nightmare for us, regular Floridians. Governed by Governor DeSantis, we now live in fear of the next set of fireworks damaging our property. We have personally experienced loss, with fresh damages to our house and cars from fireworks ash and debris, causing us emotional distress and financial hardship. The costs of repair are beyond our budget and it is unjust that we must turn to our insurance for help. Should we claim, we encounter unavoidable deductibles. It's an ugly cycle that we did not create nor should we be paying for. It feels like vandalism endorsed by our governor.

This is not unique to our situation. Fireworks have caused myriad problems statewide. Fireworks are explosive and dangerous in the wrong hands - and they're in the wrong hands far too often. Being a largely residential state, homes in Florida are too closely packed for fireworks to be used safely. Despite having designated days and noise ordinances, rules are loosely enforced and frequently violated.

Moreover, the risk of fires is substantially high due to Florida's warm climate, and lack of restriction allows anyone of any age, including those under the influence, to light up. This lack of regard for safety, citizens, property, and last but not least, animals, is alarming. According to the National Fire Protection Association, fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires per year, including 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and 16,900 outside and other fires.

It's time we make a change, for ourselves and for all those silently bearing this unnecessary burden. We beseech you to sign this petition to ban the personal use of fireworks in Florida, so we restore tranquility and safety back into our homes and lives. Let's urge Governor DeSantis to enforce a prohibition on fireworks, to make personal use illegal, and help us regain our peace of mind, lives, and property. Please sign this petition today.
