My health journey has been a battle, a struggle like no other. The daily assault that additives like high fructose corn syrup and food dyes throw at my body has made me realize the importance of food purity and how it affects not just me but millions around the globe. High fructose corn syrup, a sweetener used in a myriad of processed foods and drinks, has been linked to the obesity epidemic, diabetes, liver damage, and other health issues (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Similarly, certain food dyes are banned in places like Europe due to concerns over their safety, yet they continue to be used in many goods in the US (New York Times, 2010). Other countries have recognized the potential harms of these additives, yet the United States continues to allow them in our food supply. It’s time for us to take a stand.
