Living in Malden Rushett Village has always been a joy surrounded by Green Belt and Farm Land , and a tight-knit community spirit.

However, over the years, this peaceful village has been disrupted by ever increasing volumes of traffic, and made worse by a never-ending stream of huge juggernauts traversing the A243 from M25 Junction 9 , via Bridge Road Roundabout, to the Ace of Spades A3 Roundabout. These lorries, primarily owned by major supermarkets and courier companies, the largest sized vehicles legally allowed on our roads, have turned our local roads into a chaotic thoroughfare, affecting our quality of life and posing serious safety risks.

The incessant rumble of these heavy vehicles is not just an inconvenience; it has made our roads heavily congested, increasing travel times for residents and clogging a route that wasn't designed to support such heavy traffic. This has left many villagers feeling trapped and our roads more treacherous. Many families find walking or cycling increasingly dangerous, especially for children and the elderly.

Research indicates that heavy vehicles contribute significantly to road wear and tear, and their exhaust emissions impact air quality, which could threaten the health of residents. According to Transport for London, large lorries are responsible for approximately three-quarters of collisions with cyclists and a disproportionately high number of pedestrian injuries. Houses\Premises etc. close to the road feel the vibration as the vehicles go past.

We urge the London Mayor, the LA Transport Committee, and the London Council Transport Committee, alongside the London Lorry Scheme Committee (LLSC), to take immediate action and redirect these large vehicles away from the A243. Implementing a restriction on heavy lorries will relieve our community of the impending dangers and return safety, peace, and cleaner air.

There is a viable alternative route for these  heavy lorries; they can stay on the M25 till Junction 10. This Junction has been extensively upgraded,  making it more efficient, at a cost of £317M. These large vehicles  can then use the A3 going North and the A3 Underpass . Juggernauts of these dimensions i.e.  4880 mm/16 feet in height already use the Underpass on a daily basis in both directions.

This proposed route is far better equipped to  handle these significant traffic volumes without developing severe congestion or presenting undue hazards to residents and local communities. The redirection would not only restore the tranquillity of Malden Rushett Village but also enhance the safety of all road users on the A243.
