Ban harmful snap traps outside CLSC

Ban harmful snap traps outside CLSC
The Issue
Recently, I discovered snap traps with teeth designed to maximize damage inside bait boxes located outside the CLSC in Pointe Claire. Upon closer examination, it's apparent that these traps are intended to act like leg hold traps. Such devices have been officially banned in our area since 1970. Yet, here they are, disguised inside bait boxes, presenting a hidden danger to the community's wildlife. This is deeply troubling.
The danger presented by these traps is not hypothetical. When animals, whether they be squirrels, chipmunks, frogs, snakes, birds, or any other creatures, reach into these traps, they risk injury or death. Their paws can get ensnared, with the box weighted down by concrete, preventing escape. Beyond just paws, these traps can easily snap shut on an unsuspecting animal's face or nose, causing horrific injuries or fatalities.
These traps are cruel and unnecessary. Non-target animals have a high risk of getting caught, injured, or killed. What's more, this practice directly contradicts the spirit and legislation of Pointe Claire, where measures against atrocities like leg hold traps are already enshrined in law. We cannot stand by as these makeshift traps continue to harm our wildlife.
The solution is clear: a complete ban on these harmful snap traps outside the CLSC and across Pointe Claire, ensuring that the locale remains a safe haven for both people and animals. The aim is not only to eliminate unnecessary suffering but also to respect the laws set to protect our environment.
We have an opportunity, and a duty, to act. All it takes is the will to prioritize the humane treatment of our wildlife and the enforcement of our local laws. Please sign this petition to demand swift action to remove and ban these destructive traps, and protect the precious animals in our community from not only pointless suffering but needless death. Your signature can help make a profound difference.
