Ban Harmful Lyrics from Public Airwaves

Ban Harmful Lyrics from Public Airwaves
The Issue
In today's world, where music is a powerful medium shaping thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, harmful lyrics are broadcast daily to millions of listeners. These are not just innocuous lines of music; they are messages that glorify violence, drug use, misogyny, and other destructive behaviors.
As a consumer, artist, and community activist, I've witnessed firsthand the devastating effects these lyrics have on individuals and communities alike. Parents come to me, shattered by the loss of their children, only to turn on the radio and hear songs valorizing the very violence that took their loved ones' lives.
This is not only deeply upsetting but also avoidable. The airwaves are a public resource, regulated by bodies meant to ensure that what is broadcast is suitable for all audiences. Instead, we are met with lyrics that, under the guise of 'artistic freedom', perpetuate and normalize harmful behaviors that lead to real-world consequences, sometimes even death.
It's time to hold record companies accountable for the content they profit from. By continuing to produce and promote music with harmful lyrics, these companies are complicit in the destructive cycles affecting our communities. They must be charged with collusion, as they knowingly contribute to the dissemination of dangerous messages that should never be played over publicly controlled airwaves.
Let's demand action now: urge regulators to enforce stricter controls on lyrical content aired publicly and compel record companies to be more responsible in their production choices. We have the right to expect that our airwaves foster positive and constructive content.
