Happy International Women's Day to all of our #ToxicFreeHair supporters!

Yesterday, I had the privilege of listening to the brilliant Emma Dabiri speak - Irish-Nigerian author of 'Don't Touch My Hair' at Women of the World Festival in London. Emma investigates how hair isn't only hair. There is a deep richness to the history and politics of afro and textured hair especially, deeply linked with oppression but also liberation.

After Emma's talk I had the opportunity to meet with her and share about the #ToxicFreeHair petition. I shared with Emma my Mama's story and how harmful chemicals in hair dyes and straighteners are linked to a higher risk of breast cancer, and especially so for women of color like my mom.

To my delight, the first thing Emma asked me was how she could support the petition! And today, on International Women's Day of all days Emma Dabiri shared a Tweet about the petition. She also signed my copy of her book dedicated to both my beloved Mama and I.

Interesting fact:

Both Emma and I have both started petitions on change.org. I want to amplify her important campaign too -- it's about protecting afro textured hair and school children who are being discriminated against for their hair. Please be sure to sign her petition here too and share!

Cheers to women supporting women and lifting each other up. Let's continue to raise awareness about issues that matter!
