Ban Giving Assignments During Friday

The Issue

Giving assignments during Friday should be banned. Students have great responsibilities in the school that they are in. To accomplish the given paper works of each subject is one of their responsibilities. But not all schools have the same new educational system. Some schools are having their online classes in the morning while the afternoon is set for students to do their homeworks or assignments. While others, mostly public schools, are in the modular pace. Whichever school they are in, we are in the midst of the pandemic. Which highly means that students are most likely indoors and are expected to help in the house after their class, or when they are not seen studying. Just with this, the time they have to do their given paper works are reduced. So they have to do it at night or the day after. What more time would they have to relax and have fun, if they are given assignments during weekends?

The DepEd memorandum No. 392 states that, giving assignments to students during Friday should be banned. Educators have experienced having small amount of time to breathe, so why won't they support this memorandum? Honestly speaking, students are given assignments that the answers can be found in textbooks or in the internet. They will not learn, and will simply copy what they see the answer is. There is no point. But according to TDC’s president Benjo Basas, the memorandum is unnecessary. And that it violates the educators’ academic freedom to give the students the best education. But, is giving the students the time to relax really unnecessary?

For the seven days of the week, students only have the Saturdays and Sundays to loosen up. Two days of escaping the fatigue of staying up all night to accomplish their assignments, and have a peaceful sleep. It’s their time to relax. But before that, they have to help do the household chores and attend Sunday masses with their family. Students are capable of being tired, they aren't robots. They need to regain their energy and give their minds and bodies a rest. So, may this petition be a way to spread the most common thing that matters most for students. Let Friday be a rest day!
