As a visual art major at JMW, it's dissapointing and disheartening to see a school so focused on creativity using and promoting generative AI. With a school FULL of artists, designers, and editors--still resorting to AI to do your graphics and advertising is embarassing and shameful, and is actively tarnishing the reputation of our creativity-focused arts curriculum, and the students that they house. Even more so because students have reached out on MULTIPLE occasions asking for the AI-generated graphics to stop, and to just ask one of the students to do it--especially because we would say yes. In fact, I know that many students would jump at the opportunuty to create graphics and advertising media for the school! Generative Ai Leeches off of artists who put in years of hard work to get where they are now, and should not be used in an arts setting, PERIOD. Sign the petition to ban all use of generative AI for the purpose of graphics and promotional content at JMW for staff and students alike.
