A (Gas-Powered) Leaf Blower FREE Cold Spring is Within Reach!

Thank you for supporting our petition to ban gas-powered leaf blowers in the village of Cold Spring. You have taken the first critical step toward improving the health and tranquility of our beautiful home,  but our work is not over! 

THE UPDATE: We submitted our petition to Village Hall for the board of trustee's consideration, but in order to make sure our petition gets on the agenda we need your help!

Gas-powered leaf blowers (GPLBs) are damaging to our health, our environment, and the tranquility of our village. The specific decibel frequency of a leaf-blower can be heard for miles. Lawn maintenance companies use the machines excessively and in all seasons. If they're not blowing leaves in the fall, they're blowing grass clippings in the summer, and snow in the winter. The situation has gotten out of hand and our village deserves better. 

In 2026, there are smarter and healthier ways to manage lawn and property care. Our petition does not call for a ban on all leaf blowers- just gas-powered ones. There are competitively priced commercial-grade electric leaf blowers that rival even the strongest GPLBs. Studies show that lawn maintenance companies' ability to do work is not significantly affected by GPLB restrictions. In fact, businesses often benefit from increased client satisfaction when quieter electric tools and methods are used to manage lawn care. 

GPLB bans are not without precedent. Hundreds of municipalities across the country have introduced partial or total bans on GPLBs. Our neighbors to the south in the Village of Larchmont banned GPLBs a few years ago, and the program has been a huge success. 

We would like to emphasize that we are calling for a ban within the Cold Spring Village limits- not Philipstown or the outskirts of the Cold Spring's jurisdiction where people have larger lawns and properties to maintain. There is a strong appetite among village residents to reign in the use of these machines. A total ban in the Village of Cold Spring is a reasonable proposal.
