Ban Foie Gras in ATX

Ban Foie Gras in ATX

The Issue

Foie gras is diseased duck or goose liver.  Multiple times per day, for weeks on end, ducks and geese are force-fed with pipes that bypass their esophagi and pump food directly into their stomachs.  They can be forced to consume up to 4 pounds of food per day, whereas naturally they consume half a pound of food per day.  This causes the birds to experience frequent organ failure, difficulty breathing, lameness from swelling on their feet, fractures to their sternum, and a diseased liver 10x larger than it naturally should be.  Hudson Valley, by far the largest foie gras supplier in the US, has been the subject of multiple undercover investigations, each of which have shown horrific cruelty.  The force fed birds suffer a mortality rate 20x higher than birds who eat naturally.

By signing this petition, you are asking restaurants, individuals, and policy-makers to take a stand against animal abuse.  Let's work towards a future without foie gras!
