Ban Foie Gras at Hi Hat Public House
The Issue
Hi Hat Public House sells foie gras in their mayo. Foie gras is the diseased liver of ducks who have been force fed. Workers ram hollow pipes down the throats of these poor birds, bypassing their esophagus and pumping food directly into their stomachs. The ducks livers become swell to 8x their natural size, sometimes distending their abdomens and causing organ failure. Force fed ducks suffer a mortality rate 20x higher than ducks who eat naturally, usually because they choke on their own vomit. The ducks spend their entire lives in tiny metal cages that smell like urine and feces, barely able to turn around, while being subjected to force feeding multiple times per day. At the end of this hellish existence, they are killed, their livers are ripped out of them, and the rest of their bodies are thrown in the trash. There is no place for this kind of cruelty.
We are petitioning for Steve Schrader, owner of Hi Hat, to stop funding animal abuse by removing foie gras mayo from his menu and replacing it with regular mayo. If you don't support the foie gras industry, let Steve know by joining us and signing the petition!
