Dr. Ahmed is being less than truthful. He claims their agencies specifically refutes the Bashash studies and reads passages denying the validity of studies. The Health Canada report only considered a few studies that were published prior to May 10, 2017 (their own cut-off date), and the studies he claims were 'carefully' examined and rejected by Health Canada as flawed were published in Sept 2017, Feb 2018 and October 2018. There were other important items published after May 10, 2017 that the Health Canada report conveniently ignored by the setting of that date a year and a half before their publication.

Another report from Public Health Ontario does address Bashash specifically, but does not convincingly refute it. That report says, "The study by Bashash et al. is a considerable improvement over previous research given the large population size and the availability of individual level data to assess both exposure and outcome. Another strength of the study design is that exposure was measured during what is perhaps the most vulnerable window of neurological development in children, the prenatal period. This study measured fluoride exposure through a well established method that was first published in 2011.2 The study also measured cognitive performance through well established methods." but then goes on to say, "A large body of evidence links relatively low level exposure to lead and methyl mercury to neurotoxicity and adverse effects on neurocognitive development at the population level. A similar body of evidence does not exist for fluoride." But in fact, EPA scientists Mundy et al. 2009 & 2015 included fluoride in the same category as lead based on the significant body of evidence of harm, calling it one to the 21 'gold standard developmental neurotoxicants.'

Moreover, the Public Health Ontario report says that "This study should be viewed in the context of a growing body of literature which investigates possible relationships between low dose fluoride exposure and possible effects on neurocognitive development. While many published studies have reported an association, considered individually, there are at present, no methodologically strong studies of direct relevance to Ontario," when in fact in October 2018 which may have been after this report was written but over 2 months prior to this hearing, Malin et al. and Till et al. published two studies specific to doses for Canadians in general and pregnant women in particular in 'optimally' fluoridated communities that pretty much exactly matched up with the doses in the Mexico study.
